How can we help?

Answers to the questions we hear most. Can't find yours? Email support@tabkeeper.io — we reply within 1–2 business days.

Getting started

How do I bring in my existing records?+

Go to Add → Import from CSV. Export a CSV from your bank, POS, or spreadsheet, then map its columns to TabKeeper fields (date, amount, description, contact). Every import runs as a batch — if a mapping was wrong, you can undo the whole batch from Settings → Import History instead of deleting rows one by one. Professional and Premium plans include done-for-you import assistance.

My dashboard shows zeros. Where are my numbers?+

Check the period chips at the top — the dashboard defaults to This Month, so transactions dated outside the current month won't appear until you switch to YTD or a custom range. Also make sure you're viewing the right business if you belong to more than one (tap the business name at the top of the dashboard).

What's the difference between business and personal mode?+

Business mode tracks a company's books — revenue, vendors, invoices, team members. Personal mode is a separate space for your own accounts and spending plan. They never mix; switch between them from the mode selector.

Recording money

What's the difference between "Money In" and "Receivable"?+

Money In is cash you've actually received — the day's sales, a paid invoice. Receivable is money you're owed but haven't collected yet, like a catering invoice on Net 15 terms. When a receivable gets paid, record the payment against it and it moves into Money In. Your dashboard shows both, so collected and expected revenue never get confused.

How do partial payments work?+

Pay any amount against a bill or invoice and TabKeeper tracks the remainder — the transaction shows a "$X left" badge until it's settled. The outstanding balance on your dashboard and the contact's balance both update automatically.

Can I edit or delete a transaction I entered wrong?+

Yes — tap any transaction to open its detail view, then edit or delete it. Edits are tracked in the transaction's history, so you always have a record of what changed.

Do recurring expenses like rent enter themselves?+

Set up recurring expenses in Settings → Recurring — rent, insurance, subscriptions. TabKeeper creates them on schedule so your months compare cleanly without re-typing the same bill.

Can I attach a photo of the receipt or invoice?+

Yes — every revenue, expense, and payment form has a photo field. Snap the paper invoice when the delivery arrives and it stays attached to the transaction.

Team & multiple locations

How do I add my manager or bookkeeper to the account?+

Invite them from Settings → Members. They'll get an invitation to join your business with the role you choose. Roles control what each person can see and do — an operator works in one business, a manager can switch between assigned businesses, and an admin sees everything.

How do I switch between my locations?+

Tap the business name at the top of any screen to open the business switcher. Each location keeps fully separate books, contacts, and reports.

A team member sees "No Business Yet" — what's wrong?+

They haven't been assigned to a business yet, or their invitation is still pending. Ask the account owner to check Settings → Members and re-send the invite. If it persists after accepting, have them sign out and back in.

Billing & subscription

How does the free trial convert to a paid plan?+

New accounts get a 14-day free trial with full access, no card required to start. If you add a payment method and don't cancel before the trial ends, it converts to the plan you selected. Cancel anytime during the trial from your account settings and you won't be charged.

How do I cancel, and will I get a refund?+

Cancel anytime in account settings, the Stripe billing portal, or by emailing support@tabkeeper.io — never a phone call. You keep access through the end of the period you've paid for. Fees are generally non-refundable, but we refund duplicate charges, verified outages on our side, and anything required by law — details in the Support, Billing & Refund Policy.

My payment failed — will I lose my data?+

No. We'll retry the charge and notify you; paid features may pause until payment succeeds, but your data stays intact. Update your card in the billing portal and access resumes immediately.

What happens to my books if I leave?+

Export everything as CSV, PDF, or Excel before your subscription ends — your data is yours. After account deletion, data is deleted or de-identified within 90 days per our Privacy Policy.

Account & security

I can't sign in / forgot my password+

Use Forgot password on the sign-in screen to get a reset link by email. For security we show the same message whether or not an email exists, so double-check you're using the address you signed up with. Still stuck? Email support@tabkeeper.io from that address — account security requests are prioritized.

Is my financial data safe?+

Your data is encrypted in transit and at rest. Payments run through Stripe (PCI-DSS Level 1) — we never store full card numbers. Bank connections go through Plaid and are read-only — we never see your bank credentials and can't move money. Access is enforced at the database level per business. Full details in the Security Overview.

Does TabKeeper work in dark mode?+

Yes — TabKeeper follows your device's appearance by default, or you can lock it to light or dark in settings.

Still stuck?

Email us what happened, when, and any error message — we reply within 1–2 business days, Mon–Fri ET.
